Assistant Principal, Athletics

Mr. Montoya grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Spanish from Midland University. While at Midland, he was a member of the university’s track & field and cross country teams. He later earned a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Mr. Montoya is also a Registered Athletic Administrator (RAA) through the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA).

Mr. Montoya began his career as a high school Spanish teacher and athletic coach in Nebraska. Throughout his career, he has served as both a head and assistant coach in cross country, football, basketball, and track & field. In addition to his coaching experience, he has held leadership roles as Dean of Students and Assistant Athletic Director before relocating to Arizona. Most recently, he served as Athletic Director at Crismon High School in Queen Creek before joining Desert Vista High School as Assistant Principal of Athletics.

Outside of school, Mr. Montoya enjoys spending time with his wife and their two dogs, cycling, hiking, and reading.
