Welcome to DV Boys Golf

Our program is comprised of respectful gentlemen and excellent student/athletes. They are highly knowledgeable and well-schooled in all facets of the game. We expect our kids to be mature beyond their years and they are. They support each other mightily and integrity is second to none. Our kids are fierce competitors and sharpshooters. No matter what, when the competition starts, their focus narrows, they know precisely what they need to do and are relentless in the pursuit.

Pre-season "Open Facilities" for Golf

As part of pre-season preparation for tryouts, Desert Vista is offering four optional 9-hole play dates at The Raven. Student-athletes may select up to three of the dates listed below (not all four).

Transportation will be provided via a bus departing from Desert Vista’s East (front) parking lot near the office. The bus will leave approximately 10 minutes after school ends and will return following the round.

To participate, students must email Desert Vista's coach as soon as possible with their top three preferred dates. Space is limited, and spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Confirmation of participation will be sent via email. Students must also indicate whether they plan to ride the bus or arrange their own transportation.

Players are expected to be available by the first tee time. Groups and pairings will be determined by the coaching staff.

Available Dates:

  • Monday, July 28 – First tee time: 4:25 PM (9 holes)
  • Wednesday, July 30 – First tee time: 3:30 PM (9 holes)
  • Monday, August 4 – First tee time: 4:25 PM (9 holes)
  • Wednesday, August 6 – First tee time: 3:30 PM (9 holes)

Important Information for DV Boys Golf

  • For the upcoming season The Raven Golf Club will continue to be our main
    practice/competitive course.     We are grateful to The Raven for extending this invitation while
    The Foothills remodels throughout our season and all players are required to be on their best
    behavior and dressed in appropriate golf attire while on property at The Raven. Anyone
    interested in trying out for Boys Varsity Golf program will have a mandatory player meeting in
    Coach Russo's classroom C-280 on Tuesday 8/5 from 3:45pm-4:30pm.     All players need to make sure they are fully cleared through our DV Athletic Department prior to that date including all necessary paperwork, etc. Coach Russo will also be available after school in the front office at Desert Vista from 3:45-4:30pm on Friday 8/8 if any parents want to come ask specific in-person questions. Please email me if you plan to come during this time. Bus transportation will be available as needed over the week of tryouts and players
    must have a spot reserved for the bus with Coach Russo by no later than by 4pm on 8/8 if
    they choose to ride on any days of tryouts. Players will be informed on the evening of Friday
    8/8 whether they are in “Group 1” or “Group 2” for scheduling purposes. This is not
    determined by skill level..

As in previous years, the tryouts week consists of:

  • 8/11 — "Skills Challenge" day at the Ahwatukee Lakes--- we will assess basic skills on the driving range and practice area. ---Starts at 4:30pm. All players will get divided into 2 groups to participate in tryouts with. On 8/11, group #1 will attend from 4:30pm-5:15pm. Group #2 will attend from 5:30pm-6:15pm. **Bus available
  • 8/12 — 9 holes at the Raven Golf Club-- this will be for just half of the large group (Group 1)--4:25pm first tee time. This is an "off day" for players not assigned to this group. Players should arrive no more than 30 minutes before their tee times. Tee times will be made available the evening of 8/11 by email link. **Bus available
  • 8/13 — 9 holes at The Raven Golf Club-- whole group. 3:30pm first tee times. Players should arrive no more than 30 minutes before their tee times. Tee times will be made available the evening of 8/12 by email link. **Bus available
  • 8/14 — 9 holes at The Raven Golf Club -- this will be for just half of the large group (Group 2)-4:25pm first tee time. This is an "off day" for players not assigned to this group. Players should arrive no more than 30 minutes before their tee times. Tee times will be made available the evening of 8/13 by email link. **Bus available
  • 8/15 — Friday's skills challenge is set up for a playoff only between those several players on "the bubble" of making the team or not. 9 holes at The Raven Golf Club. All other players will know before this date whether they made the team or were unfortunately cut from the final roster. 4:25pm first tee time. All players in this group will be sent their pairing and tee time information the evening of 8/14.
