Welcome to DV Boys Golf
Our program is comprised of respectful gentlemen and excellent student/athletes. They are highly knowledgeable and well-schooled in all facets of the game. We expect our kids to be mature beyond their years and they are. They support each other mightily and integrity is second to none. Our kids are fierce competitors and sharpshooters. No matter what, when the competition starts, their focus narrows, they know precisely what they need to do and are relentless in the pursuit.
Pre-season "Open Facilities" for Golf
For the 2026 season, the AIA competitive schedule and tryouts begin earlier than previous years. For the pre-season, I have included 2 dates for players to sign up to prepare for tryouts. I will have a bus available to/from DV and the course each of these days and we will leave 10 minutes after school gets out with the bus parked in the front (east) parking lot in the teacher lot by the office.
If you are interested in signing up for (one or both) of the following 9-hole days at the Foothills or the Raven, please email me ASAP with which dates you would like. There are limited spots for these dates. I will email you back to confirm if players were able to get their requested dates. You need to also let me know if you are planning to ride the bus to/from or provide your own transportation. Players need to be available by the first tee time and the specific groups and pairing will be done by the coach and I will let the players know order at the course. Players need to have these times confirmed with Coach Russo-- do not just show up at the course planning to get into a group.

Important Information for DV Boys Golf
For the upcoming 2026 season, both The Foothills and The Raven Golf Club will serve as the two “Home” courses for the Boys Golf Program. We will split time at both courses but we host our “Home” AIA 9-hole matches at The Raven. We will practice and hold team qualifiers at both courses. During the preseason, tryouts, and the Varsity Season, all players are required to be on their best behavior and dressed in appropriate golf attire while on property at Tour courses. Any breach in these expectations may result in removal for the day and possible removal from the tryouts process (depending on severity).
Anyone interested in trying out for the Boys Varsity Golf program will have a mandatory player meeting in Coach Russo's classroom C-280 on Tuesday 7/28 from 3:45pm-4:30pm. All players need to make sure they are fully cleared through our DV Athletic Department prior to that date including all necessary paperwork, etc. Coach Russo will also be available after school in the front office at Desert Vista from 3:45-4:30pm on Friday 7/31 if any parents want to come ask specific in-person questions. Please email me if you plan to come during this time. Bus transportation will be available as needed over the week of tryouts and players must have a spot reserved for the bus with Coach Russo by no later than by 4pm on 7/29 if they choose to ride on any days of tryouts. Players will be informed on the evening of Friday 7/31 whether they are in “Group 1” or “Group 2” for scheduling purposes. This is not determined by skill level. You must receive a tee time from Coach Russo for tryouts week. Do not just show up to the course planning to get into a group.

- 8/3-- "Skills Challenge" day at the Ahwatukee Lakes--- we will assess basic skills on the driving range and practice area. ---Starts at 4:30pm. All players will get divided into 2 groups to participate in tryouts with. On 8/3, group #1 will attend from 4:30pm-5:15pm. Group #2 will attend from 5:30pm-6:15pm. **Bus available
- 8/4-- 9 holes at the Foothills Golf Club-- this will be for just half of the large group (Group 1)--4:15pm first tee time. This is an "off day" for players not assigned to this group. Players should arrive no more than 30 minutes before their tee times. Tee times will be made available the evening of 8/3 by email link to players. Driving range is not available (per management of the course) so players must fully stretch out on their own before playing. Although this is not ideal, all players have the same restrictions and may not try to hit balls on the range on their own. **Bus available
- 8/5- 9 holes at The Raven Golf Club-- whole group This will be for both groups 1 and 2. 3:30pm first tee times. Players should arrive no more than 30 minutes before their tee times. Tee times will be made available the evening of 8/4 by email link to the players. **Bus available
- 8/6- 9 holes at the Foothills Golf Club-- this will be for just half of the large group (Group 2)--4:15pm first tee time. This is an "off day" for players not assigned to this group. Players should arrive no more than 30 minutes before their tee times. Tee times will be made available the evening of 8/5 by email link to players. Driving range is not available (per management of the course) so players must fully stretch out on their own before playing. Although this is not ideal, all players have the same restrictions and may not try to hit balls on the range on their own. **Bus available
- 8/7-Friday Playoff-- only between a small group of players on "the bubble" of making the team or not. 9 holes at The Raven Golf Club. All other players will know before this date whether they made the team or were unfortunately cut from the final roster—or are in this playoff. 4:25pm first tee time. All players in this group will be sent their pairing and tee time information the evening of 8/6.
